The United States Air Force realized that social computing would provide them with a way to foster continuous learning and increase access to business-critical information, knowledge and lessons learned. So, in July 2009, they teamed up with NewsGator Tomoye to implement a powerful social computing platform that consisted of numerous professional forums containing a myriad of advanced features. Air Force members were now able to learn from each other by sharing best practices, innovations and learning opportunities.
They could also draw upon social features like questions and answers, social bookmarks, social profiles, microblogging and expert identifiers, just to name a few. Their solution was built around seven hallmark communities of practice, each catered to improve the lives of the individuals using them.
